Pinterest Launches Full Screen Width, FB-Style Video Creative Units

Pinterest has launched a promoted video tool that lets advertisers take over the entire mobile screen with their content, in a similar style to those on Facebook. Pinterest offers some potentially interesting and different opportunities for marketers compared to Facebook. With people using Pinterest to gather creative ideas (recipes, party ideas), the platform offers advertisers a unique opportunity to reach customers with their creative adverts.

Apple issues new App Store rules

This week, Apple announced new review guidelines for its App Store platform which determine which apps can be published in the App Store and which cannot. Apple’s new guidelines now explicitly say apps can’t host anything that looks like an app store within an app, or give users the ability to “browse, select, or purchase software not already owned or licensed by the user.” Reuters highlights the significance of these guidelines, as Apple is seen to be protecting it's 15%-30% of the purchase price of software bought in the App Store.

The Data Behind 10 Years of the iOS App Store

Games generate an overwhelming majority of revenue on the App Store despite accounting for only one-third of global downloads. Looking into the last ten years of the iOS App Store, App Annie revealed that games represented 75 per cent of consumer spending, but only 31 per cent of downloads. The report details that games account for 52.7 billion downloads out of a total of over 170 billion between July 2010 to December 2017.
